Our U-10 girls and boys travelled to the Dragon’s Den astroturf in Killorglin on Sunday to participate in the U-10 7-a-side blitz. They had an excellent day out where we fielded 3 teams and each team play 3 matches. They did themselves, their families and the club very proud.
Mastergeeha F.C. 2 - 2 Listowel Celtic
Our U-12s hosted Listowel Celtic in a rain drenched Kilbrean Park on Saturday morning. In an extremely competitive game, we were unlucky to only come away with a draw. Both teams took time to get to grips with the conditions and a number of chances were created at either end. Midway through the first half Rory O'Connor opened the scoring following a great move followed by a cool finish. Just as we began to gain greater control Listowel hit us on a counter attack to equalise. Both teams continued tit for tat for the remainder of the half and only for a fantastic save by the Listowel keeper we would have gone in at half time ahead. We had the better of the second half and went ahead again through a Ben Carmody finish following a bursting run and cross by James Kelly. Listowel did not lie down and equalised a second time in the last ten minutes. Our lads pushed hard for a winner and created a number of goal scoring chances following some great moves. Our defence of Jack Ahern, Zach Cronin and David Lowin were solid throughout and well marshalled by Ryan O'Sullivan in goal. Jack Buckley captain on the day led by example in the middle of the field supported by Daniel Cotter, James Kelly and Brian Lenihan. Charlie Higgins and Thomas Myers caused problems for the Listowel defence on numerous occasions. Ronan O'Connor showed great versatility playing in a number of positions during the course of the game. Thanks to Listowel for a very sporting game and as always thank to parents/families for their great support.
U12 Division 2
Mastergeeha F.C. 0 - 7 St Brendan’s Park Fc
In a top of table clash in Division 2 North, our boys came up against a very strong Park team. Heavy rain and wind did not deter a huge squad of players 17 in total turning out on the day. The boys were very competitive in the first half however we conceded a number of goals to a very dangerous Park forward line during the first half. We created chances of our own but just didn't get the break of the ball that we needed in order to get back into the game. We ran the changes throughout the second half with all players contributing and giving it their all. Despite the score line, our boys never gave in and continued to look to create chances. In what has been a very promising season to date for this team we still lie in second place in the Division and the boys will have learnt a lot from the day. Cillian Miley captain on the day let by example throughout and he was supported by good performances by all and in particular by Jakub Hyciek, Conor O'Rourke and Eoghan O'Riordan. Thanks to Park for a very sporting game and as always thank to parents/families for their great support.
U-14 Division 1
Mastergeeha F.C. 1 – 1 Killorglin AFC
On Saturday morning, we welcomed Killorglin to a wet and windy Kilbrean Park where both sides shared the points available, playing out a 1 all draw in difficult playing conditions for both sides.
From the off, there were 2 contrasting styles of play, through good teamwork we worked the ball up the pitch to create our opportunities; Killorglin favoured the 1990’s Jack Charlton long ball approach and to give them credit, they took the lead within 20 minutes from a long ball out of defence and one of their players took to wide of the goal to strike it well to go 1 up. This was against the run of play and we had the majority of possession in the first half with Diarmuid Furlong, Danny Coffey, Con Carroll and Jack Tagney, linking up well with our midfield of Cian Guerin, Cian O’Connor, Dara Stack and Aaron Buckley. At half time, our boys showed strength and believe that they would get a result. During the second half, we continued to dominate the play but we were not clinical enough in front of goal. At the other end, TJ Healy, made a handful for excellent saves. Ringing the changes, Gavin Barry, Bobby Gallivan and Dara Moynihan along with captain Emmet Spillane and Kieran Nagle allowed us to turn the screw on Killorglin where Dara Moynihan positioned himself well to finish. With about 5 minutes left, we tried to steal the win but the clock rang out. Thanks to Andrew and his Killorglin team for a very sporting game and as always thank to all our great supporters.
Scorer: Dara Moynihan
Congratulations to Dara for making the Kerry Schoolboys team of the week
Castleisland AFC 2 - 2 Mastergeeha F.C.
Thanks to Tadhg Brosnan for the match report. After an even opening half the home side lead at the break 1-0 with Mastergeeha having a goal disallowed and Dara Tagney going closest. Early in the second half Brian O'Driscoll forced a good save from the Castleisland goalkeeper. From the resulting corner, Thomas Scott headed home the equaliser. After this Mastergeeha created the better chances and took the lead when Philip O'Leary converted from the penalty spot. With 10 minutes remaining the home side equalised following a fast break out of defence. Both sides had some chances late on with Mastergeeha hitting the cross bar and Brendan O'Leary going close with a well struck shot.
Seniors: Rattoo Rover's Football Club 1 - 0 Mastergeeha F.C.
In this close game the home side started the better and took the lead after 15 minutes. Just before the break, we thought we had equalised only for the goal to rule out for an infringement. In the last play of the first half, James Nagle had a good effort saved. In the second half Mastergeeha pushed forward but came up against a tough defence. Dylan Murphy, Barry O'Leary and James Nagle had good efforts saved and some crosses cleared off the line as we tried to get the equaliser. However, our seniors could not find the net despite the best efforts of all involved.
Mastergeeha FC hosted UEFA B Coaches Licence Assessment.
