Division 2A: Mastergeeha FC 8 – 2 Kilflynn City. In our last home match of this season’s league, our seniors bagged three points which moved them from second to the top spot in division 2A. As the scoreline suggested, this was a one-sided affair. 4 minutes in, Gearoid Kerins played a through ball for James Nagle to finish well. On the quarter hour mark, James scored his second goal. Shortly afterwards, we were slow to clear a Kilflynn attack and Chris Egan slid in to intercept the ball which resulted in an unfortunate OG making it 2 -1. We maintained possession well and made it 3 – 1 when a breaking ball fell nicely for Tommy O’Sullivan to finish. Next goal came from the head of Mike Baker from an in-swinging cross. In a lapse of concentration, we allowed Kilflynn space to run at our defence where they struck well to find the net. Before the break, Dylan Murphy was hungry and sniping for his goal and he got it making it 5 -2. A focused half time team talk saw the boys come out determined to close out the game. Mastergeeha’s game management was excellent throughout the second half, where Kilflynn didn’t get a shot on target. Our goals came from Conor O’Leary, Gearoid Kerins and Eoin Daly. Credit to Kilflynn, they demonstrated great sportsmanship and never gave up but they came up against a motivated Mastergeeha team.
Overall a good all-round performance from the whole squad and we look forward to our next fixture on the road. Scorers: James Nagle, Tommy O’Sullivan, Mike Baker , Dylan Murph, Conor O’Leary , Gearoid Kerins and Eoin Daly .
