Cup & Shield Competitions. Our U11 squad took part in the inaugural KDL Cup and Shield by travelling to St Brendan’s Park on Saturday. First up were the Cup squad. After an exhilarating 60 mins, we emerged victorious with the winning goal scored late on by Liam O’Mahony after a Messi-like run and pass from Michael O’Riordan. The game itself was tightly contested; long range efforts from Roan Guerin and Jack Murphy, and closer ones from Conn Deally and Daniel Buckley were all saved. At the other end, Park hit the woodwork twice and were denied an equaliser when Jonah Casey tipped a point-blank effort. Despite late pressure, we just held out. Best wishes to Conor Finnegan who suffered a nasty foot injury early on - thanks to parents Joe O’Connor & Phil Breen for acting as medics and no doubt he’ll be back in action for the next round. Our Shield squad were up next. A tough 1st quarter saw us fall behind despite a fine goal from Alan O’Leary following a run and cross from Colin Somers. While our backs were against the wall for most of the game, we defended valiantly with Liam Breen, Adam O’Connor and Jack Teahan to the fore. Cian O’Rourke in goals pulled off some fine saves while our youngest player Cian Maher belied his age with the heart of a lion. Well done to all concerned and thanks to our opponents for 2 fine sporting games. And a special thanks to the parents for making the journey and their support.
U-13 Division 1
Mastergeeha F.C. 7 – 1 Killarney Celtic
U-13 Division 2
Mastergeeha F.C. 1 – 2 Killorglin AFC
U-15 Premier
Mastergeeha F.C. 1 - 2 Iveragh. Strong performance from our under 15’s and we were unlucky to go down 2-1 to Iveragh. We dominated the first half and scored through Eoin Kelly. Iveragh equaliser came just before half. In a game where the weather was a key factor, Iveragh got their second and we pressed for the equaliser to the finish. With a number of players coming back from injury and Illness. a credit to them how well they battled to the end.
U-17 CUP
Mastergeeha F.C. 0 – 4 Listowel Celtic. At home on Saturday afternoon, the boys played a good North Kerry side. In the opening half Mastergeeha defended well with Joe Colgan saving when called upon. Mid-way through the half Brendan O’Leary went closest for Mastergeeha when his strike was goal bound but the Feale side keeper saved well. In the second half the visitors started the better and were a goal up after ten minutes and doubled their lead moments later with a deflected shot. After this Mastergeeha created some good chances with Roiri O’Connor going close. However against the run of play Listowel increased their lead. The boys continued to push forward and had shots off the crossbar and upright from Cian Murphy, Donagh Fahey and Colm Kelliher. On the day with a bit more luck and being more clinical in front of goals Mastergeeha would have a reward for their efforts. All tried hard and could not be faulted.
