U-11 Mixed Basketball – ‘Super Performance. Congratulations to our U-11 mixed basketball team who took silver medals last Saturday in Duagh. They played Fossa and Currow/Currans in the group stage and progressed to the semi-final against Duagh/Lyre who they defeated with an outstanding team performance to reach the county final. They were defeated in the final by an experienced Castleisland team after a gallant effort. ‘The team put in some superb performances throughout the day and did the Parish proud’ Well done also to our U-13 boys and U-13 girls teams who competed in the county competitions over the last two weekends. Thanks to all our coaches, Aisling and Paul O’Donoghue, Darragh McGuire, Ber O’Connor and Pat O’Donoghue who helped out with the teams and to Kilcummin NS for the use of their fantastic gym facility. Best of luck to our musicians and singers taking part in Keel next weekend.
U-10 Blitz Mastergeeha U-10’s attended their 2nd blitz on Sunday. Our young guns turned up in large numbers where we fielded 2 teams on the day where we won the majority of our games with some really competitive games that ended in draws of narrow losses. Once again, our U-10’s represented Mastergeeha with great pride and skill. Well done to everyone involved and a special thanks yet again to all our parents for getting the players to Killorglin.
U12 Division 2
St. Brendan’s Park 4 -2 Mastergeeha F.C. We made the trip to Tralee to meet the division table toppers for the second time in the space of 2 weeks. As the score line reflects the boys made huge strides since the first meeting and can count themselves unlucky not to come away with a share of the spoils. Despite starting the stronger we found ourselves a goal down following Park's first serious attack. The boys lifted themselves to respond within in minutes with our high press on the Park kick-outs paying dividends when Eoin O'Sullivan forced a mistake which allowed Brian Linehan to burst through and find the back of the net with a cool finish. Park did have the better of the last 10 mins of the first half and broke through with two goals to leave us trailing 1-3 at the break. Against the run of play Park added a fourth early in the second half but the boys dug deep with their performance to that point was not reflected on the scoreboard. Led by Conor O'Rourke and Eoghan O'Riordan in the middle of the pitch and aided by Daniel Cotter and Brian Linehan on the wings the boys pushed Park back with a period of sustained pressure. Park remained dangerous on the break but Cillian Miley marshalled the defence well throughout with Patrick O'Riordan and Ross Murphy at full backs solid as usual. Odrian Carroll made a number of excellent saves. We were rewarded when Conor O'Rourke burst down the wing and from what looked like an impossible angle, he drove the ball into the roof of the net. We came close to adding a third during the closing stages but could just not peg back a strong Park outfit. Evan O'Sullivan, Ryan Hickey and Evan Counihan each made significant impacts off the bench. Thanks to all parent/family which made the trip to support the boys and also thanks to Park for a very sporting game.
Other friendly games: Our premier team welcomed Inter Kenmare for an early kick off at Kilbrean Park in a challenge game. It was a great work out for the lads allowing a number of players experience in different positions across the pitch. Big thanks to Inter for making the early kick off and we look forward to making a return trip later in the season. The weekend was completed when we fielded a third team for a challenge game versus our U-11s. This allowed us to give game time to all 30 players over the weekend. It was a very competitive game and a big thanks to John & Gareth for facilitating the match.

U-14 Division 1
Killarney Celtic 0 – 4 Mastergeeha F.C. Our U-14 team in their new club jersey’s sponsored by Pain Medicine Cork
It certainly was a game of two halves where the physically stronger Mastergeeha team faced local rivals, Killarney Celtic. The first half was a rather tame affair where our boys dominated both territory and possession, but to be fair to the gutsy Celtic boys playing 7 in defence, kept us scoreless in the first half. Captain Emmet Spillane pulled the boys together at half time and asked them to remain patient and our dominance would be fruitful. In the second half, Dara Moynihan, Cian O’Connor, Kieran Nagle, Danny Coffey, Cian Guerin and Aaron Buckley controlled the middle of the park. Our first goal came from a set piece where Emmet stood over the free kick, he struck it well to curl around the wall to score. Bobby Gallivan from a central position, was given space to strike and buried it to the back of the net. Our third goal was a great team goal where Con Carroll picked out Jack Tagney that put a lovely through ball to Bobby that ran in behind the defence to square it where Aaron Buckley attacked the back post to finish. The 4th and final goal of the day came from our pressure on their kick out where Emmet Spillane assisted Bobby for his second goal. Dan O’Rahilly, Diarmuid Furlong, Con Carroll and TJ Healy did their jobs well on the day. We move on and take the positives from this game. Scorers: Emmet Spillane (free), Bobby Gallivan x 2, Aaron Buckley. Congratulations to Bobby Gallivan for making the Kerry Schoolboys Team of the week with his strong performance and contribution on Saturday.
U-14 Division 2
Castleisland AFC 6 - 3 Mastergeeha F.C. Our U-14’s travelled to Castleisland where the score line flattered the home team. The game was a much closer affair than the score line suggested. Both sides had periods throughout the game where chances were created. Our goals on the day came from Darren O’Leary, Matthew Kennedy and James O’Connor. Castleisland managed to convert 2 late counter attacks. Standout performance came from Fiachra Roarty, Liam Horgan (Captain) and Darren O’Leary.
Mastergeeha F.C. 0 – 3 Killorglin AFC
We hosted Killorglin in Kilbrean Park on Saturday afternoon. From the off, this was a competitive fixture with both teams creating good chances in the first half. Killorglin scored just before the half-time which was a big blow to the boys who had defended well up to that point. The second half was a lot like the first half with good chances for both teams but Killorglin were the more clinical side when they scored with 20 minutes remaining. Our boys pushed on to get a goal but Killorglin caught the boys on the counter to win the game 3-0. Our panel on the day included Conor O’Leary, Sean Kennedy, Brian O’Driscoll, Shane Warren, Darragh O’Riordan, Dara Tangney, Philip O’Leary, Thomas Scott, Kevin Bowler, Nathan McCarthy, Liam Fleming, Conn Fleming Evan Murphy, and Micheal Sweeney.
