Our Gold team won their 3 games, our Red team lost their opener against Killorglin and despite dominating their next game against St Brendan’s Park, unluckily lost by the narrowest of margins. They did however round off the day in fine style with a win over Ballyheigue.
Killarney Celtic 4 - 1 Mastergeeha F.C. The final score line was a bit harsh on the boys as they again were very competitive for the majority of the match. Celtic scored a second just before half time to leave it 2-1 at the break. Unfortunately, we conceded a third early in the second half. A fourth was conceded with the last attack of the game.
Mastergeeha F.C. 1 - 2 Ballyheigue. We started the game the stronger and opened the scoring through Ryan Hickey with an excellent finish. As the first half progressed Ballyheigue came more into the game forcing a number of saves from our keeper Odrian Carroll before finally forcing an equaliser just before half time. The second half was evenly contested with Ballyheigue scoring a second from a corner kick to lead 2-1. Best on the day were Patrick O’Riordan, Jakub Hyciek, Eoghan O’Riordan, Conor O’Rourke and Jack Murphy.
The game took off well with a 3-0 lead at the break with Sean McAuliffe benefitting from a 'rabona' through ball from Matthew Kennedy. Matthew himself scored with Evan O’Sullivan also scoring to set us on our way at the break. After halftime the Park got back into it. They got one back, then Sean McAuliffe settled the nerves again before Park came back to make it 4-3. David Darmody then eased the pain before park once again pegged it back to 5-4.
Sean McAuliffe completed his hat-trick. That got us to 6-5 but we scored a further two goals. Scorers: Sean McAuliffe x 3, Matthew Kennedy, Evan O’Sullivan, David Darmody, Tadhg Herlihy, Darragh O’Keeffe
Mastergeeha F.C. 0 - 8 MEK Galaxy. Their opener dented our confidence and we conceded three quick goals. We gave away a penalty which was saved brilliantly by Kyle Murphy, after that it boosted confidence again and we created a couple of good chances but unfortunately, we didn’t convert them. We were punished near the end of the half with 2 further goals. We re-grouped at half time where we changed formation to make us a little more solid and it worked for a good portion of the 2nd half as it helped us create a few more chances. Best on the day were Kyle Murphy, Farath Miah, and Thomas Myers.
Mastergeeha F.C. 1 - 2 Killarney Celtic. In a game of two halves, Celtic were stronger in the first half and scored early. Celtic scored their second in the first few minutes of the second half. Mastergeeha came into the game and started creating chances where we came close on a couple of occasions. Eventually scoring in the last minute of the game with a well taken goal by Darragh O’Connell.
Abbeydorney 0 - 5 Mastergeeha F.C. Mounthawk Park was the venue for our return fixture where we ran out easy winners at the end. The first goal came half way through the first half where Gearoid Kerins rose well to finish to the net. Dylan Murphy who was dragging the Abbeydorney defenders out of position all day to finish well for our second goal. Paul Moroney stepped up to despatch the penalty to the back of the net. Barry O’Leary was the next person to have the Abbeydorney keeper picking the ball out of the net. The final goal came from the hard-working James Nagle.
