KILCUMMIN COMMUNITY GAMES: 2012 got off to a fantastic start for Kilcummin Community Games when our music group swept to glory and collected the gold medals in a highly competitive event in Abbeydorney on Saturday evening last. Our highly talented group under the excellent guidance of Colm Guilfoyle saw off ten other entrants to book their place in the All-Ireland Finals which will be held in Athlone in late May. Heartiest congratulations to Niamh McSweeney on concertina, Stephen O’Leary on accordion and Dean Griffin on banjo and no doubt their hard work will continue over the next few months with a big thank you to Colm Guilfoyle for all his help. Niamh McSweeney collected her second medal of the weekend when she took silver in the solo music competition in a very strong field of 15 challengers. Niamh gave an outstanding performance on concertina and was only pipped at the post by the reigning champion. Next weekend it is the turn of our ballad group and solo singer to head for Abbeydorney for the County Finals and we wish them well. Thanks to Marian and Lal Collins for making their premises available for practice sessions in recent weeks, it is much appreciated.
